Afternoon Workshop

Sunday 1:00 to 6:00 pm

What goes around comes around, what you give, you get back – that’s the law of karma, the philosophy of action and reaction.

Does karma always find a way to get back to us? Does it come back tenfold, a hundredfold? Does it have a deadline? Can we break out of the cycle of karma? How to rise above negative karma? Maybe turn it around? And does the law of karma run the world? Should we just let karma sort everything out?

What is karma, really? Well there are many misunderstandings and mythologies surrounding this fascinating topic. Join us to understand the meaning, the significance and the process of karma and how it works.

Facilitator: Harsha Palli, B.Tech, has an M.S in Computer Engineering, is an IT Architect, and has practiced Raja yoga meditation since 2005. He resides at our San Francisco center and facilitates classes and retreats at Anubhuti. Harsha specializes in creating a very calm and clear environment for others to experience deep meditation and insights.

Includes snacks at tea/coffee break.

Note: You must register and be able to attend the full workshop in order to participate.

3 Day Retreat

Thursday 6 pm to Sunday 5 pm

Access peace, creative expression and your inner wisdom

Whether you are an experienced or beginning meditator you can benefit from a period of silent meditation to quiet the mind and reset your priorities. Clearing through the mind with the aid of silent meditation, we discover that just below the surface of our thoughts and emotions, there is a clear and peaceful mind and heart that offer creative and clear directions. This creativity and self-awareness connects us with our deeper selves and each other.  Learning to deepen this process of silent meditation in a group is easier than meditating alone, as the collective resonance enhances the experience. Join us and access your true potential. Side effects may include feeling joyous and content.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Ability to easily tap into the power of inner peace and wisdom at any time
  2. Cultivate concentration skills that enhance creativity and clarity
  3. Experience exercises that improve energy, flow and overall well-being

Schedule includes: Guided meditations, creative exercises, nature and labyrinth walks, hatha yoga, movement, community service and yogic breathing practices.

Facilitator: Jay (Janardhan) Chodagam, MS, is a meditation trainer since 2001 based in San Francisco. He regularly conducts meditation retreats in Marin and hosts the weekly San Francisco Meditation Meetup. He is also the producer of the annual Peace in the Park festival in SF and SPIRIT Summit in India. www.about.me/chodagam

Includes shared accommodation with private bath, wholesome and delicious vegetarian meals, and snacks with tea/coffee breaks.

Note: You must be able to attend the full 3 day retreat in order to participate. We added an extra day for this retreat based upon participant requests. If you cannot attend the full three days/nights, please choose one of our other weekend retreats with two overnights. Thank you!

"This retreat helped me let go of self-limiting beliefs, and open up my mind and heart. The tools I learnt have helped me in my daily life and I remain grateful to Janardhan - he is a gifted teacher and guide. Highly recommend this.” - Gautam M, Google

A very nurturing and fruitful weekend. I am going back with more strength to face the world and will always be grateful to everyone here.” - Charu

"The role model of the facilitator in giving of himself was as important as the material." - Mike K

Community Kitchen at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

The Community Kitchen, which began under the name Soup Kitchen, operates the third Tuesday of every month. The volunteer work involves food prep, cooking, hall setup, serving the meal and---so important!—cleanup. We also have a food pantry, so a few awesome volunteers come early to bag up canned/non-perishable goods for our guests to take with them. Some volunteers arrive earlier, but the typical timeframe is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Won’t you consider volunteering once in a while? All you have to do is show up. By the way, there’s no age limit. We have teenagers volunteering and we have people “forever young” volunteering. Just look at the collage at the beginning of this Herald. Tots and teens. Seniors and all. Everyone turned out to make our Christmas Community Kitchen a true family event. How wonderful it would be for every month’s Community Kitchen to be like this. We prayed and we sang. We ate and we connected. Guests and hosts alike. We thought, what if the entire world took notice and tried a little bit of outreach: the world would become a better place. How about it. It would be truly wonderful to expand our volunteer base, so we can do more. Please communicate your willingness to Father Stephen, fatherstephen@annunciation.org. He will put you in touch to those who’ve taken the lead and are coordinating this important ministry. Thank you.

Friday Night Faith Vigil/March From Charlottesville to San Francisco:
Stand against White Supremacy

Friday, August 18, 6PM
16th St. Bart Station, San Francisco

RSVP Here

Join us at a Faith Vigil this denounce the racism that was on blatant display in Charlottesville last weekend and the hatred that is coming to our own backyard in 10 days. Confederate flags and Nazi symbols inflict psychic violence on our beloved community. We are sending a message that we will not tolerate these acts of violence.

On Friday evening, will lead us in prayerful and powerful resistance against white supremacy. Clergy will also call out Gov. Brown, who has abandoned his promise that California would lead The Resistance and is now enabling the mass deportation of immigrants through his proposed amendments to the SB 54 Statewide Sanctuary Bill.

This event is jointly sponsored by the San Francisco Catholic Archdiocese Office of Human Life and Dignity, Mission Nightwalks, and Faith in Action Bay Area.
