SFIC Welcomes Carmen Barsody, OSF, Co-Founder of Faithful Fools Street Ministry In 1998, Carmen Barsody, OSF, co-founded Faithful Fools Street Ministry with Rev. Kay Jorgensen, a Unitarian Universalist Minister in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, where she currently lives and works. Carmen is a member of the Franciscan Community of Little Falls, MN. Carmen worked as a Pastoral Associate in a predominantly Hispanic parish in Chicago, spent seven years ministering in Managua, Nicaragua, where she worked with women and youth, and now is at Faithful Fools in the Tenderloin. Carmen's presence in the Tenderloin is the natural culmination of years engaged at street level, listening, learning, and walking with her neighbors. As Franciscans celebrate the 800th Anniversary of Francis of Assisi’s death, Carmen will speak to the Franciscan values that are foundational in the work of Faithful Fools. She will also share about what inspired Faithful Fools to put on the opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors this coming December. |
