St. Mark’s Square invites you to a free community screening of Sugarcane, an acclaimed documentary that follows a groundbreaking investigation into abuse and missing children at St. Joseph’s Mission, an Indian residential school near the Sugarcane Reserve in British Columbia.
This screening is being held in conjunction with Orange Shirt Sunday, as St. Mark’s commemorates the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the lives of children who never returned home, honor the strength of survivors and descendants, and recognize the ongoing impacts of Indian boarding school policies on Indigenous communities and beyond.
The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion, creating space for reflection, learning, and conversation.
Guests are encouraged to wear orange in remembrance and solidarity. Any orange shirt will do.
