Over the past year and a half, humans have been assaulted with a global pandemic, accelerated impacts of climate events— fires, floods, and earth-quakes to name just a few. With such intense traumatic events, is it even possible to look beyond the physical and spiritual traumas of our lives and turn our gaze to the immensity of the mystery and the beauty that can unfold from engaging with our sufferings?
The cryptic line by 17th century Japanese poet, Mizuta Masahide, suggests that indeed sometimes we have to lose everything before we come to our senses and realize what is important for true happiness in life
Sister Michelle will engage us in contemplative seeing processes to help us navigate these days when so much uncertainty prevails. Drawing from the Wisdom of the “new cosmology” and the writings of the Quaker, Thomas R. Kelly, Michelle hopes to inspire and encourage participants into renewed energy for trust and love as we travel this immense journey of life together.

Sr. Michelle Gorman, RSM, left Ireland in 1971 to enter the Sisters of Mercy in Auburn, CA. She’s been privileged to serve in a number of ministries, including education, and new membership, plus leadership of the Auburn Regional Community and West Midwest Community.
Michelle recently completed her spiritual direction ministry due to an appointment as Institute Minister by her Sisters of Mercy Institute Leadership Team. She will continue as Chaplain to the California State Senate.
